GTA Support Guidelines for Graduate Students
The ECE Graduate Program Committee has accepted the following guidelines regarding GTA (Graduate Teaching Assistantship) support for the ECE graduate students (subject to satisfactory progress):1. GTA support will be used as a last resort. In other words, a student may be recommended for a GTA award only if the student's advisor has no GRA, GA, fellowship or other support available to him/her. An exception to this rule will be considered only if it is of significant strategic importance to the ECE graduate programs.
2. A student enrolled in the MS program will not receive GTA support after two years (4 semesters) in residence irrespective of the actual number of supported semesters. Summer semesters are not counted. GRA, GA or fellowship support beyond or during this period is entirely up to the student's advisor.
3(a). GTA support for a student enrolled in the Ph.D. program who originally entered the ECE graduate program (MS or Ph.D.) with an MS degree will be limited to a maximum of four semesters since original entry into the graduate program. In addition, no GTA support will be available after four years (8 semesters) in residence since original entry into the graduate program irrespective of the actual number of supported semesters. Summer semesters are not counted. GRA, GA or fellowship support beyond or during this period is entirely up to the student's advisor.
3(b). GTA support for a student enrolled in the Ph.D. program who originally entered the ECE graduate program (MS or Ph.D.) with a BS degree will be limited to a maximum of five semesters since original entry into the graduate program. In addition, no GTA support will be available after five years (10 semesters) in residence since original entry into the graduate program irrespective of the actual number of supported semesters. Summer semesters are not counted. GRA, GA or fellowship support beyond or during this period is entirely up to the student's advisor.
