DARPA TRP-HMT Project

In summer, I was also actively involved with the Technology Reinvestment Project (TRP-95 solicitation) initiated by DARPA TRP Office (now the Joint Dual Use Office) in the Digital Wireless Communications and Networking Systems category. The HandHeld Multimedia Terminal (HMT) project is basically a development effort led by the Consortium consisting of ITT Aerospace and Communications Division ITT A/CD as the lead Consortium Company, Honeywell Technology Center, David Sarnoff Research Center and Medical Communication Systems Inc.. The goal is to develop a handheld multimedia terminal capable of voice, data and video distribution in a wireless LAN and highly On the Move (OTM) environment and the terminal is primarily intended for digitzing the battlefield and then extended for use in the industrial and medical environments. I was involved in defining the system requirements for the HMT unit in medical applications for voice, data and video transfer and writing a proposal for the Demonstration plan of the HMT units in the Emergency Medical Service at Boston. This demonstration will seek to validate the capabilities of the HMT in terms of a robust RF link and secure communications in the second ISM band.

More information on this project will follow later!!!!
