The Department of Electrical and Computer
Engineering at Michigan Technological
University seeks applicants for the position of Chairperson of the Department.
The ECE department has experienced
significant growth in its research program, and has maintained its reputation for excellence in undergraduate education. The department has strong research and educational programs in signal and image processing, networks, power systems, electro-physics, and optical information systems. We seek a Chairperson who will help us expand on these successes.
We seek an individual with the vision and experience to elevate the department's prominence in Electrical
and Computer Engineering research, further our strong tradition of educational excellence, and grow our M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The Chair is expected to foster collaborations with other departments, centers and institutions; and advance the department's position as a key player in initiatives such as sustainability.
Required:
- active and current research program
- academic rank of Associate or full Professor
- Ph.D. in the Electrical
and Computer Engineering or a related area
- distinguished record of research and teaching
- commitment to the enhancement of diversity
- evidence of leadership, and resource and personnel management
- history of extramural funding procurement
- excellent communication and organizational skills
- plan for advancement/fund raising
Desirable:
- experience in program development and interdisciplinary activities
- awareness of and openness to innovative teaching techniques

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering consists of 24 full-time faculty members, 8 full-time staff, as well as a number of research personnel (post-docs, etc). The department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. For Fall 2007, we enrolled 633 undergraduate students, 67 masters students and another 39 pursuing the Ph.D.
