John Stromp earned his B.S.E.E. from Michigan Tech with honors in 1978, with a focus of studies in Electronics and Communications. John also did graduate work in Business Administration at both Tulsa University and Clemson-Furman University.

After graduation from Michigan Tech, John began his career as a Sales Engineer with Marathon Electric, responsible for selling electric motors and generators to OEMs, distributors, and diesel generator set assemblers. He exceeded sales quotas three out of three years. In 1982, John took the position of Senior Sales Representative with Memorex Telex Corporation in Dallas, Texas. He advanced through several positions, ultimately becoming Director of Government Sales, in Overland, Kansas. He was promoted to this newly created position after educating senior management on the trends of government business and recommending a strategy to turn around a declining business segment. In 1996, John joined Compaq Computer Company/Tandem Computers in Plano, Texas, as Global Account Manager where he was responsible for the transformation of EDS as an end user account into a true global channel account. In 2002, John became Global Alliance Manager - EDS with Mercury Interactive, in Dallas, Texas, responsible for the Mercury and EDS relationship and sales of Mercury software into EDS and EDS clients.

In February 2004, John became Alliance Director with IONA Technologies. In this role, he is responsible for the worldwide relationship of sales of IONA software solutions into the clients of and with key strategic Global System Integrators: EDS, CSC, and AMS . Included in his responsibilities are setting strategic directions, account strategy, account planning, conducting contract negotiations, coordinating issue resolution, developing executive level relationships, coordinating technical evaluations, facilitating internal Partner and IONA communications, educating solution centers, and facilitating joint sales activities.

While at Tech, John was very active, serving as President of Student Council , Member of the Board of Publications, Chairman of the Ways and Means committee, Vice President of Student Council, President of the sophomore class and many other positions.
