Four-Year
Class Schedule:
To serve the widely varying needs of our students, we now
offer three options
or "paths" (PDF) for entering the Computer Engineering Program . The
differences between them start in the first semester of your first year.
- Path A - The Traditional Engineering First
Year: delays your entry into computing courses, in
favor of General Chemistry and General Engineering courses
that give you a broad overview of the Traditional "Heavy Metal" Engineering
Majors. It is meant to help incoming students who want to become "some
kind of an engineer", but are not sure what kind (e.g. mechanical,
civil, chemical, electrical, etc). You can then transfer seamlessly
between the Traditional Engineering Majors at the beginning of your
sophomore year.
- Path B - The Computer Engineering First Year: replaces General Chemistry with a math/science elective of your choice,
but leaves the General Engineering courses in-place. It accelerates
your entry into computing courses. You should take this path if you
have firmly decided on Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering,
but still want a broad overview of the Traditional Engineering Majors.
- Path C - The Computer Science First
Year: has been created for students who want to
"do something with computers", but are not sure exactly
what to major in. This path replaces General Chemistry with a math/science elective, replaces the General Engineering
with computing electives, further accelerates your entry into computing
courses, and maximizes your immersion in computing.<
Under this option, you complete your freshman year in the Computer Science (CS) Department . You can then transfer seamlessly into Computer Engineering
or Electrical Engineering at the beginning of
your sophomore year, or you can choose to stay in the CS department
and major in Computer Science, Computer System
Science, or Software Engineering.
