IEEE hosts Lithonia Lighting Energy Management Seminar

The largest lighting manufacturer and distributor on the planet came to Michigan Tech on October 17th to present some fantastic new energy management solutions. Students of Electrical Technology, Construction Management, Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as Electrical Contractors and Professional Engineers all were in attendance at this event.

The Synergy System integrates whole-building energy management into one easy to use and easy to implement package. There are two new energy codes which all new buildings and most commercial/industrial retrofits must adhere to as of this year. This presentation graciously put on by David Thurow demonstrates one of several solutions to this new engineering challenge. This energy managment code enforces standards for how a building's power gets used and attendees learned solutions to this through dimming, control, integration with building mechanical (through BACnet), scheduling power/energy, occupancy/photo sensing, voice/data/video as well as theatrical interfacing.

"I never knew there was such a thing as an addressable ballast, I'm really glad they came to Michigan Tech" said one attendee from U.P. Electric/Wittock Supply.

IEEE MTU branch thanks Lithonia for their time and effort.
