What is Eta Kappa Nu?

    Eta Kappa Nu or HKN in short is an International Electrical Engineering Honor Society. Those students who perform exceptionally well during the course of their undergraduation get invited to join the society.

    What does HKN do at MTU?

      • We assist the Electrical Engineering (EE) Department in the EE Open House.
      • We hold elections for the EE Professor of the Year Award.
      • We invite guest speakers.
      • We have a spring banquet for HKN members and EE faculty.
      • We work on projects in the Student Projects Lab (EERC809).

      What does HKN do for you?

      • It provides lifetime recognition of your outstanding achievements.
      • It promotes fellowship with students and faculty of similar interests.
      • It provides feedback to the department for the undergraduate students.
      • It maintains a departmentally supported scoop file for members.

      Is membership in HKN time consuming?

      • We do not require any set amount of time from our members. Each member is asked to give the amount of time they feel comfortable with.

      What are the initiation requirements?

      • Obtain the signatures of all of the EE faculty.
      • Obtain the signatures of all of the current HKN members.
      • Obtain the signatures of all of the other initiates.
      • Wear a pledge pin and pass out candy while collecting signatures.
      • Polish a bridge for yourself.
      • Take a 1 hour initiation exam.
      • Attend both formal and informal initiation.
      • Pay a $85 lifetime membership fee: $40 pays for a lifetime national membership, the rest pays for local activities.
