Hiring Initiatives
at Detroit Edison

The electric utility industry is currently being deregulated. The results will be every bit as dramatic as the break up of AT&T. Most electric utilities, Detroit Edison included, had suspended new hiring and any major budgetary decisions until the effects of deregulation became more certain. With utilities doing less of their own engineering work, most recent EE power graduates have been hiring on with consultants and large end-users of energy.

Detroit Edison is now implementing a long-term hiring initiative, and is resuming the hiring of engineers.

This talk focused on the strategic roles that utility engineers are now filling in today's deregulatory environment. The speaker provided specifics on the types of positions now open and what qualities and skills Detroit Edison is looking for in the new engineers they are hiring.
