UPPCO 138/69-kV Atlantic Mine Substation

The Atlantic Mine Substation is a new sub near Atlantic Mine (about 5 miles from Houghton). It is a 138/69-kV 30-MVA sub that ties together the substations at Ontonagon, Mass City, Winona, and M-38. It is an old sub, but has examples of mechanical relay protection systems, controls, communications, high voltage, e-mag related design, etc.

and how switching is done.

Capacitor Bank

Here is a group of capacitor banks totalling 3600 kVAR's per phase.

Transformer

Here is a 50 MVA, 138/69 kV transformer.

Circuit Breaker

Here is a switch leading from the capacitor banks.

SF6 Breaker

This is an SF6 circuit breaker. The components of the
control box are being explained.
