The MTU Student Chapter of the IEEE Power Engineering Society
invites you to become a member. In addition to social events and good
times, you can get involved in your profession and give a jumpstart to
your career.
The Power Engineering Society (PES) is THE professional
organization for our profession (like a doctor belonging to the AMA).
Joining now while you are still a student has several advantages:
- Network with working Engineers (contacts for jobs, career info,
etc).
- Become professionally involved with other EE Power Engineers.
- Develop teamwork and leadership skills (provides an edge in job
hunting).
- Show potential employers that you are already active in your
career.
- FREE first-year PES membership if IEEE member. $13/yr thereafter.
Basically, membership gives you the opportunity to develop career
skills while having fun, building your resume, and improving your
jobhunting prospects. Typical PES activities have been:
- Social Events (cookouts, sports, parties).
- Arranging technical tours and field trips.
- Bringing in speakers (professional engineers) from industry.
- Fund raising to support PES group activities.
Joining PES is a 2-step process:
- Join IEEE online.
Choose student membership option. Do NOT opt to join Power
Engineering Society at this point as it can done for free if you make
use of the coupon in Step 2, next. IEEE Membership is $30/yr (or
$15 per half year if you join after March 1st). Make note of your new membership
number.
- Join PES. Click
here for a coupon to get your first year
free in IEEE PES (it's normally
$13/yr). Give your
membership coupon to Michele or Gina in EERC 121, and ask them put it
the IEEE PES mailbox. Our
student chapter Membership Chair will mail the coupon in for you, and
also make note of your name and e-mail address so you are sure to be
invited to PES meetings and events at MTU. If you wish to track
the process, contact our membership chair, Laura Cooper.
For information about how to join or for any questions
concerning PES, contact our
chapter vice president, Laura Cooper
, or our advisor, Dr. Bruce Mork.
